District presents 18-month professional development plan emphasizing mentoring, restorative practices and evaluation changes

Megan Pagliotti presented the North Rose-Wolcott Central School District's annual professional development plan, an 18-month calendar that combines required New York State components with district priorities such as mentoring, restorative practices, MTSS, iReady, curriculum cycle work in Atlas and expanded engagement for English-language-learner families.

Pagliotti told the board the plan includes mandated trainings (blood-borne pathogens, workplace violence prevention, mandated reporter and DASA) and district-specific offerings delivered through the frontline catalog and outside providers. She described a mentoring program for first-year teachers, teacher visits to other schools to observe math instruction and a multi-part teacher evaluation system: a goal-setting/professional learning plan component plus classroom visits, with parts awaiting NYSED approval.

Board members asked whether teachers receive copies of the 18-month calendar, how online/asynchronous options work, and how the evaluation component will be rolled out. Pagliotti said teachers have frontline logins to enroll in PD opportunities and that the evaluation'related components are structured so teachers meet with administrators to set and reflect on individualized goals. She said the district is aligning PD to the strategic action plan and school improvement plans.
