The Silver Lake J1 School District board adopted a tax levy of $2,673,365 for the 2024–25 school year, approving the resolution during the annual meeting.
District administrator Kim Taylor presented the proposed budget and told attendees the levy figure is roughly 1% higher than last year’s levy. She explained how equalization aid and property values affect the revenue limit, and noted the district’s mill rate is projected at about $4.24 per $1,000 of equalized property value — down from $4.33 last year — due to higher equalized values even though the levy increased slightly.
Taylor also reviewed 2023–24 pre-audit results: revenues of about $7.85 million, expenditures of roughly $7.84 million, and a pre-audit fund-balance increase of about $72,000. The auditor’s letter (read at the meeting) said most field work was complete and an unqualified opinion on the audited statements is anticipated with delivery by Dec. 15, 2024.
A motion to levy $2,673,365 to operate and maintain the district and to finance debt service was made by a board member and seconded; the chair called for a card vote and announced the ayes have it. The board then set the next annual meeting for Sept. 23, 2025.
Next steps: the levy and budget figures will be finalized when the district completes the audit and receives final equalized value figures in mid‑October, when Taylor said she expects updated numbers to refine the October tax-levy resolution.
