Summer-school booklet: new enrichment classes, jump-start program centralized at high school

Melanie Koslewski, the district's summer-school principal, previewed the 2025 summer-school offerings and logistics at the board meeting.
Koslewski said the district will consolidate most classes at the high school this year and offer many enrichment options for outgoing 2nd through 8th graders, including advanced junior-reader work, several new art classes, Lego explorations, pickleball for beginners and a Level-5 swim class in partnership with the recreation department. "These are all enrichment," she said, noting that most offerings are optional and that the rec department provides certified swim instructors while the district supplies supervision and locker-room support.
She described two invitation-only programs: an elementary literacy boot camp for students identified via personalized reading plans and a fractions boot camp for outgoing 7th and 8th graders selected on STAR test data. Koslewski said district staff will make targeted phone calls to invite families and will prefill placeholders in the registration system for invited students. Registration will open around the February conference week and close April 30 to allow staffing and supervision planning.
Koslewski also said the district will temporarily return to paper enrollment forms after low response rates to the previous Google-form approach, and that she is working to better document links between enrichment activities and state standards.
Next steps: district will publish the course booklet and family handbook links, begin targeted invitations for boot camps after winter screening and confirm staffing and bus logistics by the registration close date.
