Two Rivers posts gains on state report cards; board flags attendance and 8th-grade math

District administrators presented the 2023''24 state report-card results, highlighting a three-year upward trend and a district score of 63.4, categorized by the state as "meets expectations."

Chad (S13), who presented the data, said the district saw strong growth in English language arts and a measurable increase in math growth. "We do have a three-year upward trend in overall score," he said, and noted that elementary and middle-school interventions helped lift target-group outcomes — the district's bottom 25% — by double-digit points in some areas.

Presenters cautioned against direct year-to-year comparisons because the state changed assessment and weighting rules this year. They singled out two continuing concerns: chronic absenteeism, which is calculated as a three-year weighted average and thus lags recent improvements, and eighth-grade math achievement, which still trails the state average and affects overall accountability measures.

Albie Clark (S2) and other school leaders described actions to sustain growth: continuing targeted small-group instruction, quarterly professional development days for math and ELA implementation, and task-force work to select and train on a new math curriculum. Clark announced public tours of LB Clark on Jan. 24 and a dedication of the Robert C. Franke Science Center at 2 p.m.

Next steps: the district will continue task-force work on math curriculum choices, maintain ELA implementation supports, and monitor attendance interventions aimed at reducing chronic absenteeism. No formal board vote was required for the report-card presentation.
