The Northern Cambria School Board voted Nov. 19 to approve the elementary school’s Title I Targeted School Improvement (TSI) plan after administrators explained the decision to place the building in TSI.
An administrator explained that the elementary building’s special-education subgroup had not made progress comparable to other subgroups, triggering TSI status. The improvement plan presented (appendix 2 on the agenda) continues several existing reading curricula, small-group interventions and "win" groups that administrators reported have shown positive effects; it also allows for additional strategies to address subgroup needs.
The board approved the plan as presented. Administrators said the plan is intended to bring the subgroup’s performance in line with peers so the building can exit improvement status in future cycles.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the plan during the presentation; the meeting record shows the vote to approve the plan without amendments.
