Sto-Rox board hears personnel, facility, donation and program updates; introduces new hire

The Sto-Rox School District board used its operations agenda to introduce a newly recommended hire and consider routine approvals for employees, field use and community programs.
Nate (Nathaniel) Brown introduced himself to the board as a pastor and nonprofit executive with roughly 20 years of experience in education and community-school partnerships. “I just wanna be a part of continuing the relationships that I built, and I wanna be a part of continuing to be impactful with young people,” he said.
The board reviewed a proposed field-use agreement allowing the Pittsburgh Passion to use the junior high school field for a spring season scheduled from Jan. 5 to July 27, 2025. A team member said the site is centrally located for players traveling from throughout the region. Board members questioned why the season fee was listed as $4; the presenter said the pricing was taken from last year’s contract and she was not involved in the pricing decision.
Administrators also presented a donation from Operation Warm: a grant providing 300 jackets (sizes 5–12) distributed at the Sto-Rox Primary Center and made available to families in need. A school representative thanked the counselor who applied for the grant and said remaining jackets are available through the primary center.
Other routine items on the operations agenda included approving listed ABC employees for the school year, an AIU addendum for alternative education services for Community School West for 2024–25, and a FAD leadership event scheduled for Jan. 29 (5 p.m.–8 p.m.) focused on eradicating hate for grades 9–12. Board members thanked staff for collaboration across departments and for the district’s ongoing work to support students and families.
