Bryan ISD approves $366,194.35 in cafeteria/kitchen replacements under USDA/TDA spend-down plan

Baxter said the work focuses on Johnson Elementary, where the existing serving line and original 1974 exhaust/fire suppression system are failing and many replacement parts are obsolete; the purchase also includes a reach-in freezer for Bryan High and a steamer replacement at Houston.
Baxter said the new serving line will include refrigerated food wells for fruits and vegetables and that replacing the obsolete fire-suppression system is necessary for code compliance and operational reliability. The board moved, seconded and approved the Ace Smart Restaurant Supply purchase of $366,194.35 as part of the approved spend-down plan; staff noted the TDA reviews and approves the plan before purchases are executed.
Trustees acknowledged the necessity of addressing aging equipment and the requirement to spend down the federal/state-administered school nutrition fund balance to an acceptable level.
