Board sets naming committee timeline, approves committee roster, library plan and policy updates

The Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education on Nov. 25 outlined a public process to name the new Westside Elementary and approved several routine items.

Superintendent Vicky (speaker 7) summarized Board Policy 9.40 and proposed a draft timeline: the board president would appoint a facility-naming advisory committee by Jan. 3; the committee would meet from Jan. 6 to March 3, present at least three recommended names (with no more than one honoring a deceased person) to the board on March 10, and that the board would hold a public hearing and potentially vote on March 17.

"Board Policy 9 40 outlines the procedures for naming of district facilities," Vicky said as she read the policy requirements and the proposed dates. The policy calls for the advisory committee to include at least one board member, one administrator, at least one staff member, four individuals from the attendance area and up to three students.

On routine business the board approved the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee membership, the district’s long-range library plan and revisions to policies in the 300 and 400 series; each motion was moved, seconded and carried via the board's online voting system. A board member thanked community volunteers who joined the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee.

Before adjourning into closed session, the board voted to move into closed session under Wisconsin statute 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment and contract matters related to the interim superintendent.
