Mason County posts final comprehensive plan draft; development code updates to follow

Chair (speaker 1) opened the briefing and introduced a Community Development update, and Community Development staff (speaker 7) said the county’s final comprehensive plan draft has been posted online after consultants lifted the draft watermark.
"They came out a photo team came out to the county...so there is some really neat new photos in our comp plan," speaker 7 said, noting drone imagery and refreshed layout are intended to make the plan easier to review.
Speaker 7 told commissioners the plan’s appeal period ends tomorrow and staff will follow with updates to the county’s critical areas/resource ordinance and zoning code to align development regulations with adopted goals and policies. That work will proceed through the DCD review process, then to the board for consideration.
The presenter said staff will also publish how‑to videos and other guidance to help applicants use the county’s online resources as the department updates forms and workflows. The county’s new DCD YouTube channel will host planning commission recordings and future tutorial videos.
Commissioners asked staff to rebrief certain items when an absent commissioner, Pat, is available so that the full board can weigh in on timing and outreach for implementation steps. Staff agreed to return with more detail on next procedural steps and public outreach timelines.
