Oak Park honors resident Kenneth J. Sherman for donations to public safety K-9 program

The Oak Park City Council presented Kenneth J. Sherman with a certificate of appreciation Dec. 16 for multiple donations to the Public Safety Department and its canine program.
Public safety staff described a donated explosives training kit, noting it contains roughly 23 types of training samples and already has been used multiple times in weekly training sessions with other area departments. A public safety representative said the plate on the kit reads: "Donated by Kenneth J. Sherman in memory of Morris and Francis Sherman." The officer described the kit as "a huge help for not only our city, but for the surrounding cities that we train with."
Sherman said the recognition was not about him personally: "It's about a tribute to the men, women, and the K-nine officers of the public safety department who put their lives on the line every day for the citizens of Oak Park." He added that the donation also honored his late parents and their values of supporting law enforcement and animals.
Mayor Marion McClellan invited Sherman and council members forward for a photo opportunity; council and staff thanked Sherman for his generosity.
