The Kenai Peninsula Borough finance committee on Wednesday introduced an ordinance to accept and appropriate $248,831.81 in opioid settlement funds for a third round of community grant awards.
Miss Gere, a borough staff member overseeing the grant process, told the committee the ordinance would allow the borough to award up to eight grants of $31,103.97 each. “We are looking to accept and appropriate $248,831.81, and hoping to be able to do grant awards of up to 8 awards in the amount of $31,103.97,” she said.
Assembly member Cooper asked when the application process would open. Miss Gere replied that applications could be released in March but added that timing was not yet firm. The staff presentation and the committee’s discussion indicated the ordinance is intended to enable award distribution once the application and review process are in place.
No formal vote on the ordinance was recorded during the meeting; the item was introduced and scheduled for further action as part of the assembly’s ordinance process.
