Leon Valley council extends MyGovernmentOnline permitting contract

Summary
The council approved a multi-year extension of the city's MyGovernmentOnline permitting contract, citing continuity for ongoing housing developments and the cost of replacing and reimplementing permitting software.
Leon Valley's City Council voted March 3 to extend its contract for permitting and document-management services with MyGovernmentOnline (MGO). City planning staff and the city manager told the council the platform supports inspections, unlimited document storage tied to addresses and a dedicated vendor contact that helps the city avoid a costly reimplementation amid active housing developments.
Planning and Zoning Director Michael Gallardo said the SUP and permitting functions "align well with the department's needs right now" and noted the city has already uploaded a large portion of its records to the system. City Manager Dr. Caldera said implementation costs for a different vendor could be "anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000," a disruption staff wanted to avoid.
Staff told the council the city budgets roughly $15,000 for permitting and pays approximately $6,600 annually for the contract; council discussion noted development fees typically offset permit costs. Councilor Campos moved to approve the extension and a second was given; the motion passed by voice vote.
The council's approval authorizes staff to continue using MGO while preserving an administrative termination option should fees rise substantially. Staff said the contract renewal timing was chosen to avoid upheaval while three housing developments are underway; no additional implementation details or new fee schedule changes were announced at the meeting.
