A school department representative told the finance committee the city is seeking authorization for roughly $1.2 million in bond funding to begin heat-pump conversions at five elementary schools: Zanetti, Talmadge, Liberty, Lynch and South End. The request represents the initial phase of a larger program; the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) has approved Springfield as the first group and the department said nine schools will ultimately be included in the program in staged allotments.
