County Administrator read a letter from County Engineer and Public Works Director Craig Erdman stating, "public works department has selected a candidate for position of assistant county engineer," and requesting authority to place the hire "at 22 3 with the assignment 5 years, but less than 10 years PTO accrual tier." Commissioners removed that item (item number 10) from the consent agenda so they could consider it separately.
Why it matters: the requested authority would let the public works director negotiate salary/PTO placement for a candidate whose experience the letter described as "more than 20 years of professional level experience in design and construction traffic engineering and related public work disciplines, significantly exceeding the minimum qualifications." Commissioners did not vote on the hire at the meeting; the matter was deferred for further consideration.
Commissioner Baumann moved to approve the consent agenda with item 10 pulled; the motion passed earlier for the amended agenda and consent items 1–9 were approved unanimously. The administrator asked the board whether they wanted the MOA and hiring resolution placed on a future consent agenda or workshoped for more discussion.
