Manager Alex Deetsch said the approach reflects state practice and provides a clearer career path in small departments that otherwise lack advancement opportunities. Committee members welcomed the clarity: one member said the change avoids hiring someone at the higher grade with the expectation they will immediately obtain certification, and another observed that the measure creates an incentive structure for employees to complete required certification steps.
A motion to recommend Resolution 25-19 to the assembly passed in committee by voice vote. The committee noted the superintendent position remains at a higher grade (19) and that certification requirements will be enforced as part of job expectations.
The recommendation will go to the full assembly for a final vote.
