Finance committee recommends $350,000 contract to Granite Construction for phase 1 rock-slide mitigation

The Skagway Municipality Finance Committee on Oct. 2 recommended the assembly approve a phase-1 CMGC services contract with Granite Construction for rock-slide mitigation, with a phase-1 cost not to exceed $350,000.
Manager Deach said the CMGC delivery method brings a contractor into the design phase so engineers and builders can coordinate earlier, improving constructability and cost control and shortening the overall schedule. "So this contract...the price for that is $350,000," Deach said, adding the committee solicited five proposals and the evaluation committee scored Granite Construction highest.
Assemblymember Potter moved to recommend the award to Granite Construction and Chair Hansen seconded. The committee approved the recommendation by voice vote. Deach said the phase-1 work will support design and produce a guaranteed maximum price for the construction phase if the project moves forward; the actual GMP and construction cost will be determined after design work and negotiation.
The CMGC approach is intended to speed delivery and reduce the need for a second RFP after design, staff said. The item will proceed to the full assembly for final approval of the contract and any subsequent GMPs.
