RTC names vice chair and outlines 2026 work plan items including FIFA, SouthLink and snow-route briefings

The King County Regional Transit Committee unanimously approved Renton Council President Pro Tem Ryan McGurbin as vice chair for 2026 and discussed a draft work plan that prioritizes large-event planning, performance reporting, and service-equity items.
Council President Barb De Michel nominated McGurbin; the non–King County members voted aye and McGurbin accepted the vice chair role. Chair Stephanie Fain said she looked forward to working with him and the full committee this year.
Mary Bergenon, committee staff, presented a proposed work plan that the committee will refine before a possible resolution next month. Key items Bergenon listed were a joint April 21 briefing with the King County Council on FIFA World Cup planning, an annual update on Metro’s performance measures dashboard and rider dashboard, the annual system evaluation report, and early work on 2028 policy document updates (strategic plan, service guidelines, Metro Connects). Bergenon also flagged Metro’s “Next Stop” initiative (investment and funding planning).
Committee members proposed additions and clarifications for the draft work plan. Deputy Mayor Neil Black asked that RTC examine how Metro is coordinating with Sound Transit as new services and BRT lines open; Chair Fain and GM Michelle Allison said that coordination would be added to the plan. Seattle Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rink asked for a briefing on snow routes and severe-weather responses to ensure essential-worker needs are met during storms. Mayor Jim Rebeil (Carnation) urged focus on communities without Metro access (Snoqualmie Valley). Several members asked that ORCA/tap-to-pay updates and implementation details be included in the ORCA briefing.
Mary Bergenon said the work plan is nonbinding and will be a living document; members were invited to submit additional topics before the committee’s March meeting. Chair Fain noted the committee will meet again March 18 and encouraged attendance at the April joint briefing.
