At the Aug. 26 meeting the Southampton County Board of Supervisors authorized staff to advertise a public hearing and prepare a resolution requesting that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) consider designating Buckhorn Quarter Road a no‑through‑truck route. The action followed a request from Supervisor Gillette, who said the road's narrow geometry and increasing large‑truck use make it unsafe for residents living along the road.
County staff advised the board that the appropriate next steps are to schedule a public hearing and adopt a resolution requesting VDOT review the corridor. The board agreed to place the hearing and resolution on the September meeting agenda so the public can comment formally and the board can adopt a resolution to send to VDOT.
No final traffic-control designation was made at the Aug. 26 meeting; the action taken was authorization to advertise and hold a public hearing next month.
