Council approves engineering study for Old Settlers Boulevard bridge

The council approved a resolution authorizing HDR Engineering to perform an engineering study and develop designs for repairs to a bridge on Old Settlers Boulevard, a structure built in 1986 that staff said shows cracking, spalling and issues with expansion joints and metal brace components.
City staff said TxDOT inspects local bridges biennially and forwards reports; jurisdictions that own bridges are responsible for repairs. Staff described the bridge defects, the potential influence of a right-turn lane installed for a nearby apartment complex and the need to produce plans so repairs can proceed.
The proposed engineering contract amount presented to council was $129,000. Council approved the authorization and staff said they will return with plans and recommendations for repair work and associated procurement.
