Residents raise concerns about property maintenance and Hispanic residents' access to driver services

At the Oct. 10 meeting, residents raised non‑agenda concerns including property maintenance, mosquito control and access to driver‑licensing resources for Spanish‑speaking residents.
Mary Hargrove of 638 Arch Street requested help getting a neighboring out‑of‑town owner to maintain an overgrown lot, said she worried about snakes and mosquitoes near a nearby creek, and thanked the Street Maintenance Supervisor William Bailey for timely assistance on a street repair. Antelmo Salazar, director of Hendfact, using an interpreter, asked the Council to help Hispanic residents who struggle to obtain driver’s licenses; Council Member Sara M. Coffey had previously met with Mr. Salazar and Mayor Eddie Ellington and Council approved a letter of support to be written to state authorities to help identify resources.
Council offered direction for staff to follow up on mosquito mitigation and to help identify community partners who can assist Hispanic residents with licensing resources.
