Henderson City Council on Oct. 10 approved an order to abate and repair the property at 292 Weybossett Road, finding its condition hazardous to health, safety and welfare.
Development Services Director Corey Williams said the owners failed to attend a Sept. 1 hearing and that staff has worked with the owners since Aug. 12. Inspections showed excessive rubbish, trash and junk in the yard; photos provided to Council showed some improvement but not full compliance. Mr. Williams said the backyard likely contains additional items that would require a search warrant to confirm.
Council Member Lamont Noel asked how long abatement would take; Mr. Williams estimated the work could be done within about 30 days depending on contractor and Sheriff's office scheduling, and Council Member Garry D. Daeke asked whether a lien would be placed on the property. Council approved Resolution 22‑65 (Order to Abate and Repair) by recorded vote (Yes: Coffey, Noel, Elliott, Daeke, Thorpe‑Cooper, Spriggs and Williams; Absent: Rainey).
The resolution directs staff to proceed with abatement steps and notes that costs or liens may follow normal enforcement procedures if owners do not comply.
