Nelson County approves foreclosure sales, sells parcels to City of Petersburg and private buyer

The Nelson County Commission opened its foreclosure sale at 10:00 a.m. on Nov. 21, 2023 and moved to dispose of several tax-forfeited parcels. The commission accepted an $8,000 bid from Ryan Moe for parcel 15-0001-23082-000 (Lots 30–32, Block 7, Original Townsite of Lakota) and approved offering unsold properties to cities and townships for $1.00 if requested.
Auditor Nathan Parks administered the sale and read the list of parcels that received no bids, which included multiple lots in the original townsites of Petersburg, Whitman and Lakota, and several rural quarter-quarter sections listed with minimum prices. The commission voted unanimously to accept the bid from Ryan Moe and to make unsold parcels available to municipalities for nominal purchase on request (motion to sell unsold properties to cities and townships for $1.00 moved by Commissioner Aaron Mork, seconded by Commissioner Cameron Swenson; roll call vote: Cody Johnson, Aaron Mork, Cameron Swenson and Steve Forde all voted "Yes").
After that motion the City of Petersburg joined the meeting and requested two parcels that had received no bids: 27-0001-67856-000 and 27-0001-67926-000. The commission voted to sell those two parcels to the City of Petersburg for $1.00 each (motion moved by Commissioner Steve Forde, seconded by Commissioner Cameron Swenson; roll call vote unanimous).
The actions finalize the county's handling of tax-forfeited property for this sale cycle and transfer several small parcels either to a private buyer or back to local municipal control.
