At its Oct. 24 meeting, the Town of Canton Board of Aldermen unanimously approved multiple agenda items, including local sponsorships, contracts, construction plans and policy updates.
Key votes recorded by the board included a $300 sponsorship to the Pisgah High School band; awarding Domokur & Associates the architect contract for Camp Hope after RFQ scoring; approval of construction documents from Creech & Associates for Town Hall, the Police Department and the Fire Department; adoption of a new trackless train rental policy; and acceptance of a Southwestern Commission (EDA) grant. All motions were moved and seconded as recorded in the meeting minutes and were approved by the board.
Manager Stinnett had presented the construction documents and RFQ results during the meeting. The transcript records motions moved primarily by Alderwoman Mull and seconded by Aldermen Shepard on most items. The board also approved an administrative appointment (Sam Dunbar as Town Clerk) and carried routine housekeeping items including approval of prior meeting minutes.
The board entered a brief closed session under N.C.G.S. 143‑318.11 (a)(6) and returned to open session with no action taken. The next regular called meeting is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2024.
