Nelson County Commission approves $25,000 trailer purchase, staffing changes and program support

The Nelson County Commission on July 2 unanimously approved a slate of routine and operational items, including a $25,000 equipment purchase, staffing changes and program support.
Commissioners voted to purchase a belly-dump trailer for $25,000 from I29 Trailer Sales in Fargo, with the cost to be paid from a Legacy Fund disbursement. The motion to purchase was moved by Commissioner Aaron Mork and seconded by Commissioner Steve Forde; the transcript records a roll call vote with all members voting yes.
The commission also approved signing a Letter of Support and a Memorandum of Understanding for the Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative for Community Enhancement (PRICE) program after a presentation from Amie Vasichek of the Red River Regional Council. Commissioners voted to approve the documents; the motion was moved by Commissioner Steve Forde and seconded by Commissioner Cameron Swenson.
Tax Director Michelle Linstad presented abatements and the board unanimously approved abatements for parcel 27-0001-67804-000 for tax years 2022 and 2023. The board approved Special Event Permits for Till House Too Saloon and Grill after a short recess, and later moved to approve the presented bills on a roll call vote.
On staffing, commissioners approved and authorized advertising for a full-time administrative assistant in the NDSU Extension Office with a starting salary of $35,100 and directed that the position be kept off the mill levy to draw down the Extension reserve balance. The board also voted to make the current States Attorney's administrative assistant a full-time position. The meeting record shows those items passed on unanimous votes.
Auditor Nathan Parks provided budget information ahead of upcoming budget discussions. With no further business, the commission unanimously voted to adjourn.
