At a work session April 28 the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission heard from Enrichment Services and received multiple departmental updates about public works, planning and equipment needs.
Belva Dorsey‑Mott of Enrichment Services, joined by Sabrina Stephens (a school-board representative), described workforce and training programs — including EMT, CDL and CNA classes — and requested a future county letter of support to help with outreach and grant applications. The manager said staff would follow up to include program information in county newsletters and social channels.
Planning and Zoning provided a draft of proposed changes to the conditional‑use‑permit (CUP) process. The draft would tighten and clarify when CUPs are required for mobile, modular and stick‑built homes and under what acreage triggers; it also reiterates that health‑department and permitting requirements must be met before placement. The planning group will forward the draft to the county attorney for review before returning to a work session for further discussion.
County Manager Thomas Weaver reported water‑system work orders (a suspected lightning strike at well #3, a repaired leak on Trotters Ridge and a temporarily offline well #4) and public‑works maintenance progress, including cemetery drainage and culvert clearing. Manager Weaver also said staff had obtained a $1,700 microchipping grant that will support animal services jointly with Fort Benning.
The manager and commissioners discussed several operational items that may appear on the regular meeting agenda, including a proposed $2 monthly increase to the county trash collection fee (raising it to $22), capital equipment quotes for a batwing tractor, and a banking resolution to add a current signer to a legacy account so funds can be transferred. The commission entered a closed session to discuss personnel matters and later reconvened.
Next steps: planning staff will forward the CUP draft to the county attorney and return with recommended language; county staff will follow up on Enrichment Services’ support request and on capital‑purchase quotes.
