Charlotte County planning commission finalizes draft community survey for comprehensive plan update

CHARLOTTE COUNTY — The Charlotte County Planning Commission reviewed and finalized a draft community survey for the county's comprehensive plan update at a work session on March 22, 2022, agreeing on distribution and outreach steps and a confidentiality safeguard.
Todd Fortune, deputy director of the Commonwealth Regional Council, led a review of the survey draft and worked with commissioners to refine question wording and outreach materials. Commissioners asked that a confidentiality statement be added to the survey explicitly requesting that respondents not provide their names.
Commissioners and staff identified likely locations for paper surveys, including local library branches, town offices, multiple county government offices and several restaurants. Fortune confirmed the survey will also be available online. Commissioners discussed advertising methods to promote participation, including placing a public service announcement in local newspapers, and agreed the survey should remain open for at least four weeks.
As a next step, Fortune was asked to send the updated draft survey and draft advertisements to county staff, who will forward them to commissioners for review prior to distribution. Mr. Fortune also distributed draft copies of Chapter 1 of the comprehensive plan update for commissioners' review and briefly discussed the proposed updates.
Monica Elder, assistant county administrator, was listed as staff in attendance. Chairman Andrew Carwile called the work session to order at 6:00 p.m. The commission tentatively scheduled the next work session for May 24 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned after the planned items were discussed.
