Etowah County Commission approves hires, board appointments and agreements on consent agenda

The Etowah County Commission approved its consent agenda at the Jan. 6 meeting by motion of Commissioner Jamie Grant, seconded by Commissioner Craig Inzer, with all members present voting yes.
Items approved included: minutes of the Dec. 16, 2025 meeting and the Jan. 6, 2026 agenda; placing Heath Yates in the Sheriff’s Office job slot of Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer (effective Jan. 5, 2026); hiring five Detention Deputies (Joseph Saporetti, Jesica Helms, Toby Peace, David Hulsey and Juarez Mateo) as replacements in the Jail; hiring James D. Jennings as a Rural Transportation Driver (requested by Rural Transportation Director Dorothea Kurdziel); final reading and reappointment of Kevin Dollar to the Etowah Gadsden Healthcare Authority Board (four-year term) and appointment of Jim Slick to that board (four-year term); and approval to transfer a Ford Expedition (VIN 1FMJU1J84REA08004) from the Commission Office to the Emergency Management Agency (effective Dec. 17, 2025).
The Commission also approved an agreement between the Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority and the Etowah County Commission for a one-year term (with options to renew for two additional years) and accepted the FY 2025 County Rebuild Alabama Annual Report. The County approved a request from Sheriff Jonathon Horton to allow Detention Deputy Alexis Bearden to receive PTO leave donations under the county program guidelines.
All consent items were approved with a single motion; no separate discussion or roll-call changes were recorded in the minutes. Present commissioners who voted yes were Johnny Grant (District 2), Jamie Grant (District 3), Tim Ramsey (District 4) and Craig Inzer Jr. (District 6). Commissioner Jeffery Washington (District 5) was absent and District 1 is vacant.
