Calhoun County Commission awards bridge contract, GPS monitoring and other agreements

Calhoun County commissioners on Sept. 25 approved a suite of procurement and contract actions, including a major bridge contract and several operational agreements.
County Administrator Jonathan Gaddy presented a resolution awarding the bridge replacement and approaches on Alexandria–Wellington Road to The Bridge Builders of Alabama for $2,147,913.35; the commission approved the award by unanimous voice vote. Chairman Terry Howell said he was glad to see the project moving forward.
The commission also awarded GPS monitoring services for the Sheriff’s Office to Alternatives to Incarceration, effective Oct. 1, 2025; approved a Park & Recreational Materials contract with Miller Sand and Landscape Supply effective Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026; and ratified a $67,500 agreement with David Landscape Services for a landscaping project at Chief Ladiga Landing. Commissioners also authorized an amendment extending project 22-RT-54-01 (Camp McClellan horse trail improvements) to March 31, 2026, and approved a $5,175 change order for Hurst Construction to replace septic tanks at the Choccolocco Community Center.
Commissioners adopted a resolution expressing support for the Daniel Group’s proposed transfer station. The commission approved each item by voice vote.
The actions formalize planned infrastructure and service contracts and set start dates where specified; the bridge award carries the largest fiscal commitment announced at the meeting. Several items were recorded as having supporting documents on file.
