Belgrade council approves ordinances to zone two school properties upon annexation

"The zoning would bring all the school district properties under the jurisdiction of the City of Belgrade Police Department," city staff member Jason Karp told the council, saying the move would make emergency response and permits easier to manage.
Why it matters: zoning the parcels ahead of annexation clarifies which municipal rules and permitting processes would apply and ensures local police would be the initial responders to incidents on the properties rather than operating across jurisdictional lines.
Details: For the Ridgeview School property the council adopted Ordinance 2025-9 to zone the site EI (Educational and Institutional). For the school district's bus barn the council adopted Ordinance 2025-10 to zone the parcel I (Industrial). In both cases the ordinances were explicitly conditioned to take effect upon formal annexation of the parcel into the city.
Process and comment: The council opened public hearings on both items, heard the staff explanation and brief comments from the school district's representative, Brian Tate, who "concurred with Jason's assessment and designation," and received no public comment. Each ordinance was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Next steps: The council will consider the separate annexation agreements on future agendas before the zoning becomes effective.
