DNR presents countywide aggregate-mapping project; study due Dec. 2026

The Minnesota DNR briefed Murray County on an aggregate-mapping project to identify potential nonrenewable aggregate resources; field work will start soon and a complete study is expected by December 2026.
Mathew Cameron, aggregate mapper with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, presented the DNR’s aggregate-mapping project for Murray County during the Oct. 21 board meeting.
Cameron said the study will identify potential locations for aggregate resources and support local land-use planning. The project includes fieldwork scheduled in the coming weeks; the DNR expects to deliver a complete county-level study by December 2026. Murray County originally requested this study by resolution in 2020 and the work is funded through the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR).
The board received the presentation; no formal action was required. The mapping effort aims to inform planning decisions where aggregate availability and nonrenewable resource stewardship intersect with development and reclamation planning.
County staff and the DNR will coordinate field access and stakeholder outreach as the field season proceeds.
