Summary
The Spencer County Fiscal Court unanimously approved three zoning changes Jan. 20, 2026, following planning commission recommendations. The ordinances permit residential lot adjustments and a 2.3-acre industrial rezoning at Elk Park Drive.
The Spencer County Fiscal Court voted Jan. 20 to adopt three zoning ordinances recommended by the county planning commission.
Zoning officer Julie Sweazy presented the applications. On a motion by Magistrate Eldridge and a second by Magistrate Cotton, the court approved a zoning adjustment for Vivacious Living LLC, confirming R-1 residential zoning for Tract 1 (1.278 acres) and Tract 2 (3.8841 acres) at 41 Travis Road, based on findings of fact and the planning commission recommendation. Judge Executive Scott Travis moved and Magistrate Stump seconded the court's approval of a rezoning application for Taylorsville Property LLC and Shields Construction to rezone about 2.3 acres at 18 Elk Park Drive from R-1 to I-1 industrial. The court also approved a rezoning for Michael and Linda Schneider to convert a portion of Tract A (1.165 acres) from AG-2 to R-1 residential on Shelbyville Road (motion by Judge Executive Travis; second Stump).
All three ordinances were approved by voice vote with the court recording "aye" for each motion. The zoning officer had provided the court with findings of fact and the planning commission's recommendations before the votes.
Why it matters: Rezoning approvals change the allowable land uses and can affect property values, traffic and future development in the county. The Elk Park Drive rezoning in particular moves acreage into an industrial classification that could enable construction or light industrial uses on a previously residential parcel.
The court did not record further conditions or amendments to the ordinances during the Jan. 20 meeting. The motions as recorded are effective as of the date of the meeting.
