Fiscal Court approves two Planning & Zoning hires; question raised about code enforcement oversight

The Simpson County Fiscal Court approved two personnel resolutions for the Planning & Zoning office at its Aug. 19 meeting.
The court approved Employee Resolution 2025-08-019-EMP-PZ1 to appoint Jonathon Chandler as a part-time Building & Electrical Inspector effective Sept. 6, 2025. The resolution states he will perform all building and electrical inspections permitted through Simpson County Planning & Zoning and conduct plan reviews for permit applications. That motion recorded an abstention by Magistrate Marty Chandler.
The court also approved Employee Resolution 2025-08-019-EMP-PZ2 to hire Mikala McClain as Simpson County Planning & Zoning Administrator; McClain will continue clerical duties in the P&Z office while serving as administrator.
During announcements Magistrate Marty Chandler asked who would oversee code enforcement for the foreseeable future; Judge-Executive Mason Barnes responded that, if McClain has the necessary information, she can send out the required letter clarifying authority and duties.
Both resolutions were approved by vote as part of the meeting's routine personnel actions.
