Public Works Superintendent Jon Jordan presented an agreement with BNSF Railway and the State of Kansas for railroad crossing improvements on 86th Road at no cost to the county; the commission approved the agreement, vote 3-0. Jordan also presented an Allied Environmental contract for required landfill groundwater monitoring; the board approved the contract not to exceed $20,865. Vice Chairman Alan Groom moved and Commissioner Wayne Wilt seconded both motions where listed, and Chairman Jim Maxwell joined in the unanimous approvals.
Community Based Services Director Brennan Hadley presented a contract renewal with eHawk for the RePath Program at $2,000 per month, fully covered by grant funding; the board approved the renewal, vote 3-0. County Administrator Lucas Goff presented a coroner contract with Dr. Todd Peters that authorizes appointment of a deputy (Joe Hanna); that contract was approved, vote 3-0. Clerk Karen Madison presented a property tax relief application from Bryan and Noel Richardson; the board approved the application. Goff also presented Board Order 2026‑01 to initiate tax foreclosure procedures on properties subject to delinquent tax liens and Resolution No. 2026‑01 for FY25 year‑end transfers; both were approved, vote 3-0.
The board directed staff to re‑advertise the mowing tractor procurement after commissioners expressed concern about receiving only one bid; an insurance payment of roughly $70,000 will be applied toward a replacement mower with a swivel seat to improve operator visibility. Jon Jordan told the board staff intends to apply to the KLBIP and Off‑system Bridge Programs using bridge OS52 as the candidate; if funded the county would be responsible for a 15% match. Commissioners asked the county administrator to ask the Sheriff to explain why the fleet report shows 39 Sheriff vehicles compared with 27 full‑time deputies; the Sheriff was not present.
