Spencer County reports 15 COVID-19 cases; court debates and approves office protective barriers

At its May 18 meeting, Spencer County Fiscal Court received an EMA update on COVID-19 and debated installing protective barriers and distributing PPE across county offices.
EMA official Chris Limpp told the court the North Central Health District had recorded 114 cases overall and Spencer County had 15 cases, with all but one considered recovered; he said the health department had tested 60 people and that masks had been delivered to local restaurants. The report framed several operational decisions the court took that evening.
The court reviewed a detailed quote from Louisville Glass for tempered-glass partitions in the sheriff's office, county judge's office, clerk's office and planning and zoning, with a corrected subtotal of $5,525. An initial motion to accept the vendor proposal failed on a 3–3 vote.
After additional discussion and a follow-up motion that required departmental sign-off on final drawings and named oversight by Esq. Brewer, the court approved expenditure of up to $5,700 for the protective barriers. Members noted the vendor lead time for fabrication and installation would be roughly two weeks. The court recorded that taxes noted on the vendor quote should not have been included and that the corrected vendor price was $5,525.
