Spencer County Fiscal Court voted May 18 to approve a six-month extension of Rumpke of Kentucky's exclusive residential and commercial solid-waste collection contract covering Aug. 1–Dec. 31, 2020.
The addendum presented to the court sets residential quarterly billing at $17.82 per month for the extension period and allows a fuel surcharge per the contract. Rumpke will continue to invoice residents quarterly in advance and provide containers and service levels for unincorporated commercial customers as specified in the addendum.
The extension passed on a 4–2 roll call (ayes: Esq. M. Moody, Esq. Brewer, Esq. Travis and Judge John Riley; nays: Esq. J. Moody and Esq. Beaverson). Members who voted in favor said the short-term extension preserves continuity of service as the county considers longer-term arrangements; dissenting members cited concerns about terms and timeline for review.
The extension runs through Dec. 31, 2020, and the court noted other portions of the solid-waste code and a separate solid-waste ordinance proposal remain under review and may be returned to the court after legal and KIPDA review.
