Morton County Commission approves subdivision plats, selects bridge consultant and signs off on multiple abatements and expenses

At its Oct. 12 meeting the Morton County Commission approved final plats for two short‑form subdivisions and associated zoning map amendments. Commissioner Buckley moved, and Commissioner Morrell seconded, to approve the final plat for Lazy B Subdivision and a zoning change from Agricultural to Residential for Lot 2; the commission found the plat conformed to Article 7 of the Morton County Land Use Code and the 2045 Comprehensive Plan and voted unanimously to approve. The commission then approved the Neumiller Subdivision final plat and a separate zoning amendment from Agricultural to Residential by the same margin.
The commission also approved a zoning map amendment converting 2.5 acres from Residential to Agricultural in Section 27, Township 138N, Range 84W, to take effect upon recording of Outlot A, which will merge lots in the NW 1/4 less Neumiller Subdivision.
On infrastructure business, commissioners selected Ulteig Engineering as the bridge consultant and designer for project BRJ‑0030(051), PCN 23984 (Bridge No. 30‑141‑25.0), located approximately 11 miles north and one mile west of Flasher. The commission also approved out‑of‑state travel for Highway Department employees to attend the 38th Annual Local Roads Conference in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Oct. 23–25, 2023.
Administrative actions included appointment of Commissioner Buckley as Morton County State Fair delegate for 2023, and authorization for the chairman to sign a letter of support for the Bison Express Project. The commission recorded approval of numerous property tax abatements (including #6259, #6261, #6262–6263, #6264–6265, #6266–#6277 with select denials such as #6260 recorded earlier). Many abatements were handled individually with motions and unanimous votes as recorded in the transcript.
The commission initially voted to deny the Acme Electric bill pending clarification but later moved to reconsider and approved the payment based on information provided by the sheriff. The meeting record shows county expenditures of $2,075,261.70 for Sept. 27 through Oct. 12, 2023; the commission noted that a detailed list of checks is available for public inspection at the Morton County Auditor's Office during regular business hours. The meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
