The Delaware County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 24 to select Guy Engineering to design and oversee work on Bridge 35 (project 30482(05)) and a realignment of about 1,500 feet of Stand Watie Road (project 38498(05)) in District 1.
Commissioner Jake Callihan moved for selection and Commissioner David Beck seconded; the board’s roll call was unanimous. Chairman David Poindexter said the bridge is more than 80 years old and that the realignment will address a sloughing hillside by straightening some turns to improve sight lines and safety.
During public comment Rocky Carroll asked whether the project involved the Cherokee Nation; Poindexter responded the two projects do not, though he noted Cherokee Nation previously paid for the first work on that road in the county. The board did not discuss funding details in the meeting minutes; the resolution selects the engineering firm to proceed with project planning and design.
