Charlotte County registrar reports early-vote totals and election-day preparations

At a Nov. 2, 2023 meeting of the Charlotte County Electoral Board, General Registrar Virginia Booth reported that early voting began Sept. 20 and that 623 early votes had been cast as of the meeting. She told the board officer-of-election training has been completed, with a makeup session scheduled for Nov. 4, and that election supply bags have been packed and staged for distribution.
Booth described the plan for setting up polling places the day before the election, saying teams will begin at the registrar's office at 8:30 a.m. and proceed to White Oak Grove, Phoenix, Charlotte Court House, Keysville, Drake's Branch, Shiloh and Wylliesburg/Red Oak. She said the ADA-compliance checklist is completed annually and that staff will carry and complete those forms during setup. Booth also said there is no waiver referenced in the guidance on ADA checklists.
On security and operations, Booth said random polling-place visitations will be used, officers were instructed in the use of the security color-code, and plans were in place for responding to problems on election day. The board also heard a canvas overview from Heather Harding, General Registrar for Halifax County, and the board referred to an attached Canvas Outline for procedural guidance.
The board unanimously approved the minutes of its October meeting (motion by Assistant Chairman Glenwood Foster, seconded by Secretary Aubrey Fane) and approved the meeting agenda without objection. The board adjourned after routine business.
