During the Oct. 4 meeting Judge/Executive Mason Barnes told the fiscal court he had received reports of a foul odor in the county clerk’s building, present the previous day and worse the morning of the meeting, and said employees were concerned. Maintenance Supervisor Bill Rohrs told the court he had contacted a plumber to investigate the cause.
Judge Barnes asked the fiscal court to reconsider discussion of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the county clerk building and the park. No formal vote on ARPA fund allocation was recorded in the minutes; the record shows the court planned to walk over to the clerk's building after adjournment to inspect the situation.
Director of Emergency Management Robert Palmer thanked the court for permitting his recent deployment to Eastern Kentucky for flood relief; Judge Barnes said that first-hand experience will help local preparedness should a similar disaster occur in Simpson County.
The minutes do not record a timetable for repairs nor a funding decision for any remediation of the clerk's building; the court's immediate next step was an on-site inspection following the meeting.
