Simpson County approves new door‑lock system for Historic Courthouse

Simpson County Fiscal Court voted unanimously on Oct. 18 to install a new door-lock system at the Historic Courthouse after Maintenance Supervisor Bill Rohrs told the court the county’s existing system no longer has supported software. Rohrs presented proposals from three companies and recommended Company A for the installation.
The approved scope covers locking the east and west entry doors, the main County Judge/Executive office door and the planning & zoning door for a total cost of $8,839.20. The minutes note any additional interior door would cost $2,999.20 each. Rohrs said he worked with IT Operations Adam Wilshire on specifications intended to improve security; the court approved Company A by motion of Magistrate Marty Chandler, seconded by Magistrate Myron Thurman.
Why it matters: courthouse access controls affect public access, staff safety and building security. The court recorded the expenditure and authorized installation; the procurement was handled via presentation of proposals and court approval rather than extended discussion.
The motion passed unanimously; the county will proceed with contracting and installation according to the approved scope and budget.
