Barry County commissioners approve year‑end transfers, new clerk fees, appointments and settlements

Actions taken included approval to authorize the County Administrator to sign claims on Dec. 30, 2024; adoption of Budget Amendment 24‑D; and adoption of Resolution #24‑28 authorizing the auditor to make final year‑end transfers. The board also approved Resolution #24‑29 to transfer 2024 General Fund surplus funds to various internal service funds.
The board adopted Resolution #24‑30 approving new fees for the Barry County Clerk’s Office to take effect Jan. 1, 2025. The motion passed on a roll‑call vote with seven ayes and one nay (Commissioner Mark Doster cast the lone no vote).
The board accepted the resignation of long‑time board member Jim McManus and appointed Jeff Keesler to two local bodies: the Barry County Land Bank Authority (term to April 30, 2025) and the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (term through Dec. 31, 2026). Commissioners and meeting attendees thanked Jim McManus for 30 years of service; the board also recognized retiring Treasurer Sue VandeCar and Register Barbara Hurless.
Other approvals included the board’s authorization to submit a grant application to the State of Michigan under the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program and the approval of Settlement and Release of Claims agreements between the county and three employees — Sarah VanDenburg, Emily Reed and Elizabeth Hutton — to resolve back‑pay claims. The minutes record that the settlement motion passed unanimously; the minutes do not state settlement amounts.
Where the board goes next: the actions complete routine year‑end housekeeping. The Parks and Recreation Five‑Year Master Plan was discussed separately and its adoption was postponed to a Jan. 7 Committee of the Whole meeting.
