County holds first readings to sell two properties; negotiations to continue

Sumter County Council granted first-reading approval to two ordinances on Dec. 13 that would authorize sale of county-owned properties, with negotiations to be finalized before subsequent council meetings.
County Attorney Johnathan W. Bryan presented Ordinance #22-983 (title only) to authorize sale of 205 and 215 N. Magnolia Street (the former mental health building) to Connelly Development, LLC. Vice Chairman James R. Byrd moved first-reading approval; Councilman Charles T. Edens seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Bryan told council negotiations were continuing and expected to be confirmed by the second reading.
Bryan also presented Ordinance #22-984 (title only) to authorize sale of 1987 Durant Lane (formerly the Spectrum Building) to Adams Property Group, LLC. The council granted first-reading approval on a motion by Vice Chairman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Eugene R. Baten; negotiations were said to be ongoing ahead of a Jan. 10, 2023 meeting.
