LaPorte County commissioners approve payroll, claims and several routine permissions

LaPorte County commissioners on Feb. 18 approved payroll and operating claims, and granted permissions for several routine items including audiovisual funding requests, staff travel, a road closure for an annual triathlon and a one-day awareness stand outside the courthouse.
Auditor Mike Rosenbaum read payroll totaling $1,622,587.48 and operating expense claims totaling $3,623,912.24; the board voted 3-0 to approve both. Judge Julianne Havens requested permission to approach the County Council for funding to update IT and audiovisual equipment in the Circuit Courtroom; she said vendors have proposed solutions that would preserve the courtroom’s architecture and offered training. The board approved the request 3-0.
The commissioners also approved travel for JSC recertification (March 12-13 in Louisville), a road closure for the Tri5Health 46th annual Triathlon/Duathlon on July 11 after coordination with Highway and Sheriff’s departments, and permission for Theresa Lentner to set up a Purple Pop-Up outside the courthouse on March 26 for Epilepsy Awareness. Each item passed by a 3-0 vote.
All routine requests were approved by motion with bipartisan support; Commissioner Connie Gramarossa and Commissioner Joe Haney were frequent movers and seconders of motions during the meeting. The board adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
Next steps: Judge Havens may approach the County Council about audiovisual appropriations; event organizers should coordinate permits with county departments as required.
