Whitfield County approves fire gear, server upgrade and intersection realignment contracts

At its Dec. 12 meeting, the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners approved several capital and safety purchases and ratified a road realignment bid intended to reduce crashes.
Commissioner Barry W. Robbins moved to approve up to $79,372 for station uniforms and related non-NOMEX items for the Whitfield County Fire Department; Commissioner Greg Jones seconded and the motion passed 4-0. The minutes state the department will use Sourcewell contract pricing and that the annual line item will not be entirely exhausted by this purchase.
The board next approved a low bid from NAFECO for turnout (bunker) gear for $69,008 to acquire approximately 20 sets; remaining funds will be used for boots, gloves, helmets and hoods. The motion (Robbins, seconded by Staten) passed 4-0.
The Sheriff's Office server upgrade to run JMS and RMS (Central Square) was approved for $17,940, charged to capital projects (motion by Commissioner Robbins, seconded by Commissioner Jones; 4-0). The board also ratified a Bartow Paving quote of $99,963.77 (2007 SPLOST funds) to realign the DawnvilleBeaverdale Road intersection to create a 90-degree stop, a change the minutes say is intended to correct a skewed intersection linked to several serious crashes; that ratification passed 4-0.
The board recorded the vendor names (NAFECO, Bartow Paving, Central Square) and the funding sources as noted in the minutes; the purchases were approved by recorded motion and vote.
