Tift County workshop previews licenses, board appointments and a recreation agreement for Sept. 11 agenda

County Clerk Miriam Jordan briefed commissioners on administrative items the board asked to place on the Sept. 11 agenda. Manguben Patel applied for Retail Malt Beverage Package and Retail Wine Package licenses for 2735 US Highway 41 South (doing business as 41 Food Mart); Jordan said the location has not previously held an alcohol license and that the sheriff recommended approval. The board indicated it would place the license application on the regular agenda for formal consideration.
Jordan also said three Dangerous Dog Board seats (Steve Wood, Heath Barry and Earnest Dove) are expiring and that all three incumbents have agreed to serve another three‑year term; no other applicants were on file. For Keep Tift Beautiful one vacancy drew two applications (Gertrude Nakakeeto and Sandra Johnson) and KTB provided no formal recommendation. Commissioner Fred "Buck" Rigdon said Sam Sims resigned from the Hospital Authority and the authority submitted three names to fill the unexpired term through Sept. 2024; the board indicated it would consider those appointments at its next meeting.
Recreation Director Tim Petrea said UFA Soccer has used county facilities for several years and the proposed agreement would formalize that usage; the board indicated it would place the agreement on the Sept. 11 regular agenda.
