County Manager Jim Carter told commissioners that after approving the purchase of a replacement 500kW backup generator and Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) for the Tift County Jail on Aug. 14, staff determined the ATS must be service‑entrance rated and installed on an exterior wall and that a generator docking station must be added to meet current life safety code.
Carter said the total additional cost for the required modifications is $82,477 and that the county will pay the cost from SPLOST VI funds. The board indicated it would place the item on the Sept. 11 consent agenda; no formal purchase approval was recorded at the workshop because the item will appear on the consent agenda for final action.
