County Manager Jim Carter and Community Development Services Director Chris Davis briefed commissioners about a petition from the George Hunt III Family Trust to rezone 7.86 acres on Highway 82 West from AU (Agriculture) to GB (General Business) to permit a manufactured home sales lot.
Carter recommended the board consider tabling action on the item to allow staff time to develop an overlay for the corridor, noting the parcel does not abut existing GB zoning but the comprehensive plan designates the area as a commercial corridor. The Greater Tift County Planning Commission recommended approval on Aug. 10; workshop minutes record no speakers in opposition at that hearing.
The board indicated it would place the item on the Sept. 11 agenda; Carter’s request to table would be available for the board’s consideration during formal action.
