Parma Heights swears in new officer, approves sergeants and captains contract

Parma Heights officials swore in a new police officer and approved a labor contract for sergeants and captains during the Nov. 24 council meeting.
Chief Greene introduced Officer Jordan Campbell, a Parma Heights native and Valley Forge High School graduate, who was sworn in by Mayor Gallo and posed for photos with family members. Council President Tom Rounds and members of the administration congratulated the new officer.
Safety Director Bova briefed council on a recent structure fire in the 6500 block of West 130th Street attributed preliminarily to a candle; the Fire Department rescued dogs from the home. Bova also noted the department's enrollment in the Blue Envelope program to aid people with disabilities during stops or emergencies, and said two new officers will begin field training soon.
Later in the meeting Council considered Ordinance 2025-102, approving a collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association for sergeants and captains. After the administration sought suspension of the rules, Council President Rounds moved to suspend and Councilwoman Maruschak seconded; council then voted unanimously to pass the ordinance on first reading under suspension.
The meeting record shows the city administration intends to continue bargaining on other contracts; Director Bova said the OPBA contract had been ratified by the unit's captain and sergeants and the council moved to adopt it. No salary or term specifics were read into the record at the meeting; the ordinance was passed as presented.
