Ottawa County commissioners approve claims, Cooperative Extension agreement, Quapaw VFD down payment and routine items

The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 8 unanimously approved a slate of routine actions including payment of claims across county funds, authorization of a Cooperative Extension Services agreement, approval for the Quapaw Volunteer Fire Department to use $15,000 of fire-tax money as a down payment on a medium-duty rescue truck, and multiple administrative housekeeping items.
Commissioner Robert Clark moved and Commissioner Scott Hilton seconded approval of the claims presented for payment; Chairman Mike Furnas and the board voted aye. The claims list included payments to Four States Maintenance for cleaning supplies and services, BancFirst for a bond payment, the Oklahoma State Department of Health for payroll, and multiple lease and vendor payments listed in the minutes.
The board also approved the Cooperative Extension Services Agreement between Oklahoma State University (Cooperative Extension Service), the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Ottawa County Board of County Commissioners for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The motion was moved by Clark and seconded by Hilton and passed unanimously.
Other approved items included an inventory list submitted by District 2; a $6,195.47 transfer of appropriations for labor and material on a bridge project (accounts 1102-6-6510-2005 into 1102-6-4300-1110); an easement authorizing encroachment to clear trees near a road on property owned by Rick Coach (legal description provided in the minutes); and blanket purchase orders #2242-2243. All were approved by unanimous vote.
The minutes also record authorization to lay to rest cremated remains of resident Carol Negelein, 53, in the Ottawa County Cemetery and list multiple vendor payments across General, Health, Highway and Rural Fire funds. The meeting adjourned following approval of the final motions.
