Magistrates press for documentation as trash complaints prompt Scott Waste contract review

During the Aug. 15 meeting Magistrate Myron Thurman raised ongoing complaints that Scott Waste Services sometimes misses collections for a week or two and that customers are not receiving billing adjustments for missed pickups. County Attorney Sam Phillips advised the court that complaints should be specific and well-documented and that Scott Waste must be notified and given 30 days to correct any contract breaches before the county can pursue further remedies. Phillips also reminded the court that the contract contains an automatic-renewal provision requiring at least 90 days' notice before June 30, 2026, if the county wishes to prevent renewal.
